Meredith Turnbull, SOFT WORDS, 15 March - 15 April 2023 at Daine Singer, Naarm/Melbourne

Material Community, was presented as part of Melbourne Design Week. Material Community is an exhibition of new work by Meredith Turnbull that contextualises her jewellery within her broader art practice, working to further dissolve the boundaries between these streams. The modes and methods of production employed are woven through with 2020’s radical reframing of how we work and what we value. The works, an integrated installation of paintings and jewellery, are grounded in connection to domestic life, family and the artist’s surroundings. The project approaches themes of identity and world building, considering the therapeutic potential in art made through small gestures of intimacy, materiality and care.
