Hardbody Sculpture
2017
Meredith Turnbull, Hardbody Sculpture, 3 May - 3 June, 2017 at Daine Singer, Naarm/Melbourne
In Hardbody Sculpture Meredith Turnbull explores the animate qualities of objects and things through two-dimensional images and sculptures. Meredith Turnbull’s practice examines how objects function as both singular entities and as collectives; as autonomous elements but also parts of an expanding field. This field coheres various disciplines to examine how objects and images can create and program space. Hardbody Sculpture also reflects on Turnbull’s ongoing fascination with socialist object-based and spatial theories and moments in 20th century art history where artistic disciplines have been combined into processes of world-building.
Concurrently with Hardbody Sculpture at Daine Singer, Turnbull will also exhibit a collection of small-scale objects and jewellery in Softbody Sculpture at Pieces of Eight Gallery. The two exhibitions allow the breadth of Turnbull’s art practice – encompassing sculpture, images, decorative objects and jewellery – to be seen at the same time.
